D.V. (Didge Vitae)Thursday, September 18, 1997 is when I first played a didge. It was at a course, given by Ian Hakker at Aquamarijn. Since then I couldn't leave the didge alone anymore.I've had didge lessons by Ian Hakker and Jan Terpstra. At Sfinks '99 I had the privilige to follow a workshop, given by Gary Thomas, Alan Dargin and Charlie McMahon. At Sfinks 2000 I followed a 5-day workshop by Charlie McMahon, Mark Atkins and Gary Thomas. At that festival I could also play with 5 other students on the main stage with Charlie McMahon. Further I've followed three Mark Atkins workshops and one workshop by David Blanasi & White Cockatoo. I was given the opportunity to play the didge at a number of djembe Sundays in Valkenswaard (de Berkenakker), at the day of the primitive music in the prehistoric village in Eindhoven (1999 and 2000) and at a number of tipi weekends of Do Lemette, also at de Berkenakker. Recently I started playing in a beginning band, called Inner Strength. This is a band with (amongst others) gitars, recorder, flute, violin, keyboard, drums etc. Especially playing with flute and violin is more beautiful than words can say ! |

A long time my favourite didge (the end of it is shown in the picture
to the left) used to be an unpainted bloodwood didge. It's tone is a C
sharp (C#) and its trumpet tone a G sharp (G#). It has two holes at the
end, one of them showing very nicely how the termites eat out the inside
of the eucalyptus tree.
January 6, 2000 I bought a very nice and very beautiful didge (also a C sharp) painted by Mark Atkins himself. Now this is my favourite didge. A picture of this didge is shown below.. On the agenda pages you can see another didge of mine. In fact, it's my first eucalyptus didge. |
